I’ve mentioned elsewhere that trying to lose too much weight too soon is bad for you, and more often than not you will also end up putting the weight back on but thought it was a good idea to have an article dedicated to it too.

Losing weight quickly means that you are most likely not getting enough calories which in turn suggests you are not eating properly either. When you do this, you are depriving your body of nutrients that i needs to keep you healthy (vitamins and minerals). This can have untold implications on your health and could even cause long term health problems.

Also, if you do not eat enough calories, your body will do all it can to preserve the food you are eating and store it as fat in case you are even more deprived. Of course, the results of this should be clear. It is important to try and stick 200-300 calories below what you need on a daily basis. A sensible amount of weight to lose each week is 1-2 pounds and you can easily achieve this through reducing your calorie intake as above. This is usually easier than it sounds and you can cut out a number of calories by replacing foods with fresh fruit and vegetables.  High fat food usually contains more and are high in calories so by swapping them out with a portion of vegetables instead not only are you eating healthier but you are also reducing your fat intake. You may even find that you are eating more than you used too simply because the food is lower in calories.

It is also important to make sure you get regular exercise too. By exercising 3-5 times per week you are cutting into your calorie deficit which will speed up the rate you lose weight. Anything counts – walking to the shops or to work is a great way to start the day off and is a great way to burn off a few calories.
