It beats less in someone that exercises regularly since it is bigger and more efficient at doing its job – pumping out more blood. It is an excellent way to check on your progress since it is easy to measure and you can check weekly and check if it is improving. |
With that explained lets move onto how to find your resting heart rate.
Before getting out of bed in the morning, count how many beats per minute there are from the carotid artery – this is the large artery that is found on the side of the neck/throat. It helps if you have a stopwatch handy to do this so you can be sure it is accurate, if not start counting after your alarm clock minute counter ticks up.
